Upcycler Helsinki was founded out of the will to make more ecological choices and enable them for others as well.
Upcycler is a one-woman company that aims to reduce emissions from fashion by offering more environmentally friendly alternatives.
For my part, I chose to influence the climate crisis through fashion, as fashion is not only my long-time profession, but also a huge contributor to emissions and often completely unnecessary environmental burdens.
The company was named after my beloved home town. For me, Helsinki is beaches, the sea and the peace of nature. However, on these shores, the sea may no longer freeze in the winter and buds are starting to appear in the middle of a snowless winter.
Slow down the fashion in terms of materials
Upcycler offers an easily accessible collection of products that are recycled or made from recycled or reused materials. In this way, we can reduce the amount of textile waste generated in the world while reducing the need for new material production.
Sometimes the selection also includes highly renewable, local materials such as wood or wool. All manufacturers are united by a production method that respects nature and the creators of the product.
The idea of the store is not to offer a large selection, everything for everyone, but quality and time-lasting design; "slow fashion". Indeed, the range consists of changing collections designed to serve current needs rather than stimuli. The series in our selection are small and individual pieces are also included. In addition, the range is complemented by changing collections of used clothing.
Our selection is the production of Finnish companies. By favoring Finnish, Upcycler wants to support fashion production here, far away from major producer countries.
Upcycler is also producing own Spring items, available in online shop going forward. The materials used are always locally sourced second hand textiles and the products single pieces or small series. All of the phases from design to final product are done in Eastern Helsinki.
The Upcycler online store opened in February 2020.
Thank you for sharing my interest in sustainable fashion!
